id you know that programs you don’t use still eat up your PC’s RAM, let alone hard drive space? Some of them even build themselves into autorun, launching along with the system and considerably slowing it down. Shut down ALL un-nescessary programs while you play. Many people have a dozen or more applications running when they boot their computers (Y!M, AIM, the list goes on and on). ALL of these take memory, and can increase THRASHING.

How to Find un-nescessary programs ?

Try running one application at a time. If you are running an anti-virus such as Norton, it can often be a big burden on your processor, so you might consider turning it off when you are not online.

I completely reinstall my XP every 6 months (around).

You must backup everything first. All data and other things like email setup, favorites etc. And make sure you have the CDs or files to reinstall all your programs, Office etc.

Then boot with the XP CD, format the partition and reinstall XP. Then put back all data and reinstall all needed programs. Takes quite a while to do.

But you end up with a clean, fast PC!!!!
